The proportion of children harbouring viral resistant virus was high but less than this reported by Eshelman et al. in Malawi from the NVAZ trial.

AIDS 2007; 21:1253-1261. This study was very important to advocate for more effective neonatal follow-up after PMTCT intervention, including HIV-diagnosis, care and treatment.

This was the first study to compare two different types of intervention to prevent postnatal HIV transmission, and evaluating the use of neonatal antiretroviral regimen concomitantly to breastfeeding.
