Eur Heart J 2007; 28:230-268. European consensus guidelines note that the results of mitral valve repair are highly dependent on the experience of the surgeon, especially for valves with complex lesions. These guidelines recommend that surgery on asymptomatic patients be considered only where there is high likelihood of a durable repair.
