This excellent review provides a complete set of information on the apoptotic death circuit in the pathogenesis of diabetes. Despite the heterogenicity in etiology and clinical presentation, type I and II diabetes share at the molecular level pancreatic β-cell loss by apoptosis, which plays an important role in the development of insulin deficiency and the onset and progression of the disease.
