However, in their work they seem to suggest that using the term 'primitive accumulation' necessarily implicates one in Marx's theory of accumulation as surplus labour. My own view is that this need not be the case, since the term 'primitive accumulation', as I understand it, only implies transformations in social property relations whereby the market comes to determine more and more of social life and its chances.
