    • Thiophene sulfoxide itself cannot be isolated because of self-condensation reactions. However, alkyl substitution of the ring gives sufficient kinetic stabization against the self condensations that they may be handled and isolated. This type of self-condensation of the parent compounds would undoubtedly also plague the sulfilimine and S,C- sulfonium ylides.
