This paper provides a comprehensive review of posttraumatic stress disorder in survivors of critical illness. The review includes the prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder across studies and comparison to other populations. This review assesses strengths and limitations of current studies and makes recommendations for future research.

This paper provides a comprehensive review of quality of life outcome studies in survivors of critical illness. The paper summarizes long-term quality of life and the degree of variation in quality of life estimates across studies of acute respiratory distress survivors. The authors conclude that acute respiratory distress syndrome survivors in different clinical settings experience similar decrements in quality of life.

Patients were tested in the intensive care unit, 1 week and 2 months after intensive care unit discharge. Survivors of critical illness had impaired problem solving and memory 2 months after intensive care unit discharge.
