    • In collisions with highly charged projectiles the target atom is exposed to the field of the projectile nucleus which is very strong on the atomic scale. Therefore, the first order perturbation theory is not capable of a correct description of electronic transitions in the target. However, as it follows from results of an eikonal-like approach developed in Ref., this point becomes not very essential if one is not interested in what exactly happens with the target in such collisions (since after summing over all possible final target states the first order and the better approach yield similar results for the transitions in the ion).
