    • In ref 11b, it was noted that complexes of the type Ru(NH 3)5L3, where L is an aromatic nitrogen heterocycle such as pyridine or pyrazine, disproportionated in moderately alkaline solution to the Ru(II) and Ru(IV) species, Ru(NH3) 3L2+ and Ru(NH3)4(NH 2)L3, respectively. The disproportionation was observed to be pH-dependent, and the Ru(IV) species was unstable and apparently underwent ligand labilization, consistent with the results described here

    • An earlier measurement (ref 15b) gave a somewhat longer lifetime for the Ru(NH3)5pz2+ cation under slightly different conditions; however, the picosecond lifetimes described here for Rupz2+ and the Rupz2, RuNO2+ mixture were determined under identical conditions in 25°C 10 mM phosphate buffer solution
