Fitchet A, Stirling M, Burnett G, et al.: Holter monitoring vs tilt testing in the investigation of suspected vasovagal syncope. Pacing Clin Electrophysiol 2003, 26:1523-1527. Does sports activity enhance the risk of sudden death in adolescents and young adults?
-
Corrado D, Basso C, Rizzoli G, et al.: Does sports activity enhance the risk of sudden death in adolescents and young adults? J Am Coll Cardiol 2003, 42:1959-1963. This provocative article reviews the Veneto experience in Italy, and suggests that sports activity is associated with an increased risk of sudden death, both in males and females. The authors conclude that sports activity, per se, was not a cause of the enhanced mortality, but triggered sudden death in those athletes who were affected by cardiovascular conditions predisposing to life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias during physical exercise.

Factors associated with impaired clinical status in long-term survivors of tetralogy of Fallot repair evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging
-
Geva T, Sandweiss BM, Gauvreau K, et al.: Factors associated with impaired clinical status in long-term survivors of tetralogy of Fallot repair evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging. J Am Coll Cardiol 2004, 43:1068-1074. The authors describe the correlation between MRI assessment of right ventricular function and exercise capacity, and promote the use of MRI to aid in decision making regarding pulmonary valve surgery in long-term survivors of tetralogy of Fallot repair.

Value of programmed ventricular stimulation after tetralogy of Fallot repair: A multicenter study
-
Khairy P, Landzberg MJ, Gatzoulis MA, et al.: Value of programmed ventricular stimulation after tetralogy of Fallot repair: a multicenter study. Circulation 2004, 109:1994-2000. Prediction of which survivors will have increased morbidity and mortality after repair of congenital heart disease is difficult. This comprehensive article reviews data from several large case series, and describes the diagnostic and predictive value of electrophysiologic testing in this population, which is becoming increasingly clear.
