Since this paper is partly an extension of earlier work by Bettencourt et al. [op. cit.], we have chosen to continue to focus on the category of KIBS firms. Some of the other literature we are building on, however, pertains to the narrower category of professional business services. Our assumption is that insights from this literature can also help inform studies of other types of KIBS firms.
