    • Global analysis of X-chromosome dosage compensation
    • The authors used microarray analysis to show equivalent X chromosome and autosome expression in both the soma and germline of females and males. This is the first direct evidence for germline dosage compensation in any species. Balanced expression between the X chromosome and autosomes was also seen in a meta-analysis of mouse and C. elegans expression data.

    • Global regulation of X chromosomal genes by the MSL complex in Drosophila melanogaster
    • The authors report the global decrease of X chromosome gene expression relative to autosomes after depleting MSL complexes using RNAi, but the effect is much less than twofold. This reveals the effect of buffering on the X chromosome. They conclude that the primary role of the MSL complex is to positively regulate the male X chromosome, but the reference standard does not exclude an effect on the autosomes.
