    • Recently Takanashi and coworkers found an apparent spontaneous resolution in an antiferroelectric tilted smectic racemate of the material β-Me-TFMHPOBC.[10] However, since an electric field was applied in order to probe the spatial distribution of chirality, there is uncertainty as to whether the observed effect is also a field-induced separation of the kind described here. If this system is close to deracemization then β-Me-TFMHPOBC mixtures should be possible with (k BT-a)/kBT ≪ 1, and enantiomeric enrichment with e5S∼1 could be induced
