    • All the d and l- amino acids used were purchased from Aldrich (Steinheim, Germany), and trinucleotides were obtained from Sigma-Aldrich chemicals (Banglore, India) and used as received. Methanol (HPLC grade) was obtained from Merck (Mumbai, India). Stock solutions of trinucleotides (500 μM), amino acid (1 mM) sodium chloride (1 mM) were prepared in Milli Q water. These stock solutions are mixed in appropriate volumes and dilulted with methanol to obtain a final concentration of 50: 200 μM (1: 4) of trinucleotide and amino acid in 50: 50 water: methanol in the presence of 20 μM of NaCl. Sample solutions are introduced into the ESI source through an inbuilt infusion pump

    • All the experiments were performed using QSTAR XL (Applied Biosystems/MDS Sciex, Foster city, USA): operating capillary voltage -4.0 kV; declustering potential, 50 V. Nitrogen was used as the curtain and collision gas. The collision energy was set to be 12 eV
