    • 4 hydrogels was still slightly basic (pH ≈ 8). These hydrogels were thus washed repeatedly for an additional 3-4 days, but the pH did not drop further. All the polymers were then dried, open to the air, for 18-24 h in an oven at 50 °C. Between 0.6 and 0.7 g of washed and dried hydrogel was routinely obtained. Assuming that all of epichlorohydrin had fully reacted (with loss of HCl) with the polyallylamine and that all salts and template had been fully washed away, 0.69 g of dried hydrogel would correspond to a 100% yield.
