D2-40 immunohistochemical analysis of pediatric vascular tumors reveals positivity in kaposiform hemangioendothelioma
-
Debelenko LV, Perez-Atayde AR, Mulliken JB, et al. D2-40 immunohistochemical analysis of pediatric vascular tumors reveals positivity in kaposiform hemangioendothelioma. Mod Pathol 2005; 18:1454-1460. The importance of immunohistochemistry in understanding, classifying and diagnosing complex vascular lesions and tumors is outlined in this paper. Finding the D2-40 marker as a marker for KHE describes the probable lymphatic differentiation of these tumors.

Patterns of infantile hemangiomas: New clues to hemangioma pathogenesis and embryonic facial development
-
Haggstrom AN, Lammer EJ, Schneider RA, et al. Patterns of infantile hemangiomas: new clues to hemangioma pathogenesis and embryonic facial development. Pediatrics 2006; 117:698-703. This is an outstanding work which maps 294 facial hemangiomas to define the facial segmental patterns. In particular, the frontonasal segment is associated with a higher risk of associated brain anomalies. They emphasize the importance of understanding the molecular and cellular processes regulating facial development in better understanding the causes of segmental hemangiomas.
