To answer this question, the authors recently published a study looking at the effects of PDGF antagonism with respect to the inflammatory and fibroproliferative phases after bleomycin-induced acute lung injury in rats. Immunosuppressants were ineffective when used as late as day 10 after injury. Imatinib RTK inhibition appeared to decrease profibrotic gene expression at day 21 to normal levels when administered at day 1 or day 10, suggesting that it is effective even once fibroproliferation has begun.
