The authors describe a new t(3;14)(p14.1;q32) translocation in a case of MALT lymphoma of the thyroid. Analysis of 91 MALT lymphomas from different sites revealed that this new translocation was present in two of 20 PCMZLs.

In this study, the frequency of genetic alterations described in MALT lymphomas, including four translocations and numerical aberrations in chromosomes 3, 7, 12, and 18, was investigated in 12 PCMZLs. In these PCMZLs only t(14;18)(q32;q21) (three cases) and trisomies of chromosomes 3 (one case) and 18 (two cases) were detected.

J Clin Oncol 2006; 24:296-305. Using array-based CGH and FISH analysis, the authors demonstrate prominent differences in chromosomal alterations between PCFCL and PCLBCL, leg type. It is suggested that inactivation of the CDKN2A gene either by deletion or by promoter hypermethylation is an important parameter in PCLBCL (leg type).

Prognostic factors were studied in 467 patients with CBCL from 11 Italian centers. Cases were reclassified according to the WHO-EORTC classification on the basis of pathology reports. Multivariate analysis revealed that categorization according to the WHO-EORTC classification was the only independent parameter for overall survival.
