    • We have tried to synthesize a β-diketone with a structure more similar to HCBDK in which the carbazole group is substituted by a fluorene group, thus we got ethyl 2-(9H-fluoren-9-yl)acetate first. However, the active hydrogen of the fluorene ring and methylene may influence the Claisen condensation reaction in some extent, so we switched tactics to synthesize HFBDK.
