    • Typical procedure (2): N-Allyl-2,2,2-trichloroacetanilide (1) (141 mg, 0.5 mmol) was added to 1,4-dimethylpiperazine (2 ml), and the solution was heated at 65 °C for 120 min. The solvent was removed and the residue was chromatographed on silica gel (hexane/AcOEt = 4:1) to afford 3,3-dichloro-4-methyl-1-phenylpyrrolidin-2-one (2) (99 mg, 81% yield).
