Farrell JJ, Bounds BC, Al-Shalabi S, et al. Single-operator duodenoscope-assisted cholangioscopy is an effective alternative in the management of choledocholithiasis not removed by conventional methods, including mechanical lithotripsy. Treatement of symptomatic distal common bile duct stenosis secondary to chronic pancreatitis: Comparison of single vs. multiple simultaneous stents
-
Catalano MF, Linder JD, George S, et al. Treatement of symptomatic distal common bile duct stenosis secondary to chronic pancreatitis: comparison of single vs. multiple simultaneous stents. Gastrointest Endosc 2005; 60:945-952. This study examined the long-term benefit of a single stent compared with multiple simultaneous stents for treatment of chronic pancreatitis-induced biliary strictures. The multiple-stent approach had significantly better stricture resolution with fewer complications.

Use of expandable metallic biliary stents in resectable pancreatic cancer
-
Wasan SM, Ross WA, Staerkel GA, Lee JH. Use of expandable metallic biliary stents in resectable pancreatic cancer. Am J Gastroenterol 2005; 100:2056-2061. This study argues that expandable metallic stents should be used when surgery in patients with potentially resectable pancreatic cancer is delayed for preoperative chemoradiation therapy and does not preclude surgery.

Postcholecystectomy bile leak: What is the optimal treatment?
-
Huang CS, Lichtenstein DR. Postcholecystectomy bile leak: what is the optimal treatment? Gastrointest Endosc 2005; 61:276-278. This editorial discusses the high success rate of the treatment of postoperative bile leaks with stent therapy and argues that a better analysis of the treatment failures would allow for predictors of failure of endoscopic treatment rather than optimal choice of therapy given insufficient numbers.
