    • Structural and mechanistic studies of VPS4 proteins
    • The crystal structure of monomeric human Vps4b is used to extrapolate a model of the multimeric structure of Vps4, using the hexameric p97 D1 domain as a template. The predicted hexameric structure reveals a central pore through which the authors hypothesize Vps4 substrate proteins pass as they are disassembled or remodeled by the enzyme. The study also describes a novel binding domain for LIP5 in the catalytic AAA domain and suggests a regulatory function for this interaction.
