    • Typical experimental procedure as shown for the synthesis of 1: To a mixture of 0.1322 g (0.9303 mmol) of freshly prepared 1,2,4,5- tetrahydroxybenzene and 0.2199 g (1.803 mmol) of phenyl boronic acid in a flask fitted with a Dean-Stark trap, 75 mL of toluene was added. Under argon protection, this resulting solution was refluxed overnight to yield a white cloudy solution, which was then cooled to room temperature. The white precipitate formed was separated by simple filtration and washed with acetonitrile. The resulting solid was vacuum-dried overnight to yield 0.2695 g (95%) of 1 as a white solid. Compound 2 was obtained as a white solid in 81% isolated yield after drying (0.2743 g). Compound 3 was obtained as a white solid in 71% isolated yield after drying (0.1455 g).
