Chen CK, Lin SK, Sham PC, et al. Morbid risk for psychiatric disorder among the relatives of methamphetamine users with and without psychosis. Am J Med Genet B Neuropsychiatr Genet 2005; 136:87-91. This report provides a strong support to the long-held theory that those who develop psychosis with substance abuse have familial, possibly genetic, vulnerability to develop psychosis. Along with a previous report on the same sample [19], this report identifies risk factors for the development of psychosis among MAP users.

Tests of causal linkages between cannabis use and psychotic symptoms
-
Fergusson DM, Horwood LJ, Ridder EM. Tests of causal linkages between cannabis use and psychotic symptoms. Addiction 2005; 100:354-366. This report is the latest to replicate the association of cannabis with psychosis with evidence for temporal precedence of cannabis and adjustment for confounding factors. Further, it uses structural equation modelling to show that cannabis has an effect on psychosis, and not the other way round.

Moderation of the effect of adolescentonset cannabis use on adult psychosis by a functional polymorphism in the catechol-O-methyltransferase gene: longitudinal evidence of a gene x environment interaction. Comparative and interactive human psychopharmacologic effects of ketamine and amphetamine: Implications for glutamatergic and dopaminergic model psychoses and cognitive function
-
Krystal JH, Perry EB Jr, Gueorguieva R, et al. Comparative and interactive human psychopharmacologic effects of ketamine and amphetamine: implications for glutamatergic and dopaminergic model psychoses and cognitive function. Arch Gen Psychiatry 2005; 62:985-994. This study examins two competing hypotheses of schizophrenia, namely, NMDA hypothesis and dopamine hypothesis. The results and discussion are interesting; they show that symptom dimensions of schizophrenia are likely to have distinct neurobiological substrates.
