    • The observation of a bisignate ICD feature could be also ascribed to the presence of porphyrin dimers. Anyway, in this case, the fluorescence emission should be consistently quenched, against our experimental observation. On the other hand, conservative ICD have been reported for long-range interaction between noncovalently linked porphyrins on biopolymers. See, for example: Balaz, M.; De Napoli, M.; Holmes, A. E.; Mammana, A.; Nakanishi, K.; Berova, N.; Purrello, R. Angew. Chem., Int. Ed. 2005, 44, 4006-4009.

    • These spectra are obtained by subtracting the absorption spectra of the phages from those of the chromophore-phage systems. All the spectra are normalized to the corresponding Soret peak.
