Comparison of the GDx VCC scanning laser polarimeter, HRT II confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope, and stratus OCT optical coherence tomograph for the detection of glaucoma
-
Medeiros FA, Zangwill LM, Bowd C, Weinreb RN. Comparison of the GDx VCC scanning laser polarimeter, HRT II confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope, and stratus OCT optical coherence tomograph for the detection of glaucoma. Arch Ophthalmol 2004; 122:827-837. This important manuscript is one of the few that compares the diagnostic accuracy of the GDx VCC, HRTII, and Stratus OCT for detecting glaucoma in one study population. It provides a comprehensive analysis using AUROC, sensitivity at high specificity and likelihood ratios and found that the diagnostic accuracies were similar among the best parameters from each instrument. Moreover, abnormal results were associated with high likelihood ratios and large effects on posttest probabilities of having glaucomatous visual-field loss.

Leung CK, Chan WM, Chong KK, et al. Comparative study of retinal nerve fiber layer measurement by Stratus OCT and GDx VCC, I: correlation analysis in glaucoma. Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci 2005; 46:3214-3220. This excellent study compares the Stratus OCT and GDx VCC RNFL thickness measurements in various regions of the parapapillary retina. The study concludes that there were substantial differences in the RNFL values of the two instruments, and that the correlation coefficients between the two measurements varied around the optic-nerve head. Despite these differences, the best GDx VCC and Stratus OCT parameters had similar diagnostic accuracy.

Comparison of three optical coherence tomography scanning areas for detection of glaucomatous damage
-
Wollstein G, Ishikawa H, Wang J, et al. Comparison of three optical coherence tomography scanning areas for detection of glaucomatous damage. Am J Ophthalmol 2005; 139:39-43. This study demonstrated that Stratus OCT RNFL and optic-nerve head parameters were better than macular parameters for discriminating between healthy eyes and those of glaucoma patients.
