What's in a Name - Burmar
-
Burma is also referred to as "Myanmar" after the military junta, the State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC), decided to rename the country Myanmar in 1988. But the decision was a highly political gesture and did not have the support of the civilian population. The author chooses to adopt the traditional title for the country. See: Ashton, W.
