    • Increased expression of MAP KINASE KINASE7 causes deficiency in polar auxin transport and leads to plant architectural abnormality in Arabidopsis
    • This work characterizes a semidominant Arabidopsis bushy and dwarf1 (bud1) mutant. The bud1 phenotype results from the increased expression of Arabidopsis MKK7, which leads to a decrease in polar auxin transport. MKK7 is the first reported member of the MAPK cascade to be involved in plant architecture.

    • This work demonstrates the molecular basis of the hybrid rice genetic factor EUI. EUI has been used in hybrid rice breeding to eliminate panicle enclosure of male sterile cultivars, which would otherwise require the application of large amounts of GA in seed production of hybrid rice. • Cytokinin oxidase regulates rice grain production
    • The authors successfully identified an agronomically important QTL, Gnla, that increases rice grain number. Gnla encodes cytokinin oxidase, an enzyme that degrades bioactive cytokine. This is the first report that demonstrates the action of cytokinin metabolism on crop plant architecture. The application of Gnla to breeding green revolution varieties in rice as well as other crops is discussed.
