    • For ground state BEC atoms, the velocity of sound is cs=ng/m where n is the density and g=(4π2as)/m. In the presence of a 1D optical lattice cs decreases as a function of higher well depths, s. Expansions into the optical lattice ultimately cause a decrease in density and therefore a further decrease in sound velocity.
