    • Conversion of compounds 3 to 4 is as follows: Aqueous lithium hydroxide (0.1 N, 1 mL) solution was added to a solution of compounds 3 (0.05 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (3 mL). The reaction mixture was heated at refluxed temperature for 1 h. It was then cooled to rt, acidified with aqueous hydrochloric acid solution (2 N, 5 mL) and extracted with ether (3 × 10 mL). The combined organic layers were evaporated under reduced pressure to afford crude product under reduced pressure. Purification on silica gel (hexane/ethyl acetate = 4/1-2/1) afforded compounds 4 in nearly quantitative yields.
