    • Characterization of a new family of cyclin-dependent kinase activators
    • ••] , describes the identification and biochemical characterization of several mammalian proteins related to XRINGO/Speedy. All mammalian RINGO/Speedy proteins have similar biochemical properties, including the ability to bind to and activate Cdk1 and Cdk2. RINGO/Speedy family members share a conserved central core of about 79 amino acids, which is both necessary and sufficient for CDK binding and activation.

Solomon Biochemical characterization of Cdk2-Speedy/Ringo A2 BMC Biochem 6 2005 19 This paper compares the in vitro substrate specificity of Cdk2 activated by human RINGO/Speedy A2 with that of Cdk2-cyclin A. The authors conclude that RINGO/Speedy A2-activated Cdk2 has broader substrate specificity and might target non-conventional CDK substrates.
