    • We have investigated an intrinsic spin current (i.e., its value in the ballistic limit, when a spin-orbit splitting is much larger than the disorder induced broadening) in the generalized 2D Rashba model when the spin-orbit term contains an arbitrary dependence on the electron momentum (A. Khaetskii, cond-mat/0510815).

    • Note
    • In contrast to the case of a linear in momentum Hamiltonian, the intrinsic current does not necessarily vanish. However, even in the ballistic limit indicated above, its value depends explicitly on the disorder properties, namely, on the correlation radius of the disorder potential. The situation is similar for the other Hamiltonians. For example, we have also studied this problem for the Hamiltonian of 3D holes, A. Khaetskii (unpublished).

    • This is equivalent to calculating qyz through the following formula qyz/px)Sy(0)(p), where Sy(0)(p)=[Ωy(p)/2Ω][f+(0)(p)-f-(0)(p)] is the equilibrium value of the Sy spin component. This integral is zero. [M.I. D'yakonov (private communication)].
