    • Several other schemes for optical memory devices have been reported in which fluorescence can be used to read the bits. These include systems where fluorescent dye is created by the action of a photoacid (see reference 4 for one example), where photochromic material is converted to its fluorescent form in the excited regions (e.g. reference 6) and others where fluorescence is reduced due to photobleaching of a two-photon chromophore (e.g. reference 10).
