    • note
    • It should be noted that analysis of raw soot actually has the underlying oxidation of metal-catalyst impurities convolved with the carbonaceous material oxidation. Since the extent of metal-catalyst oxidation is varying throughout the decomposition range, subtraction by the total residue value will estimate the total effects of metal oxidation on any weight change increase. Therefore, this assumption will underestimate the value of A until the temperature at which equivalent metal oxidation has occurred with the residue value. However, this correction factor is still less at any given point than the experimental uncertainty of 2.5% established for the current TOP technique.
