40. The rotational alignment decay of the linear molecule C2H2 is significantly slower than the rotational population decay [see J. B. Halpern R. Dopheide, and H. Zacharias, J. Phys. Chem. Consequently, collisions between the desorbing D2 in our experiment should also not affect the initial alignment of the molecules, which even have a smaller bond length than C2H2 and thus appear more spherical and less prone to alignment quenching interactions.
