note
-
Note that for SU(2) the product of two fundamental representations 2 ⊗ 2 = 1 ⊗ 3 contains a singlet, while for SU(3) 3 ⊗ 3 = 3̄ ⊗ 6. Thus the even parity gaps span a three-dimensional subspace. SU(3) singlets can be formed only in the particle-hole channel (cf. pions).
