    • note
    • On the basis of informal discussions within LCA practitioners, three points emerge in relation to growth in the use of LCA: 1) studies for policy makers provide most of the growth in full-scale studies 2)uptake by businesses new to LCA is limited. Users of information about the life-cycle environmental performance of products seem to prefer simple indicators based on LCA studies (for example the ranking scheme for building elements developed by the UK's Building Research Establishment) over more detailed, comprehensive LCA results.

    • This neglect is not total: Rennings and his co-workers, to quote one case, have noted the role of market pull as one of the determinants of eco-innovation; see [8].

    • "Although the life-cycle approach is catching on at a discursive level among ordinary people (at least in Finland), the market practices that it entails (supplier evaluation, communication of environmental data, utilisation of environmental labelling) are in their infancy" [14].
