    • To appreciate the complexity of the relative roles of short ranged epitaxial forces and long ranged van der Waals forces in the wetting of solid He on substrates, we note that, despite having the same van der Waals interactions, whereas bcc solid He3 does not wet Grafoil, which has hexagonal symmetry, and hcp solid He4 does, the opposite is the case for MgO, which has cubic symmetry, upon which neither solid hcp nor bcc He4 solidify.
