This was a post-mortem study comparing verbal episodic memory obtained from patients with DLB, Alzheimer's disease, and normal-comparison subjects, and demonstrated that DLB may be associated with less severe retention deficits than Alzheimer's disease.

This study demonstrated that expert ratings based on neuropsychological profiles showed good sensitivity and specificity to the presence of Alzheimer's disease pathology, but not vascular pathology.
16. Lineweaver TT, Salmon DP, Bondi MW, et al. Differential effects of Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease on the performance of mental rotation. J Int Neuropsychol Soc 2005; 11:30-39. Huntington's disease patients showed deficits in speed but not accuracy of response (on a mental rotation task), whereas Alzheimer's disease patients showed deficits in accuracy but not speed. The mental rotation task is of particular interest in this context, because it suggests psychomotor slowing in Huntington's disease is not simply attributable to motor effects.
17. Sadek JR, Johnson S, White DA, et al. Retrograde amnesia in dementia: Comparison of HIV-associated dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, and Huntington's Disease. Neuropsychology 2004; 4:692-699. Sadek et al, found that there was a temporal gradient in remote memory in patients with Alzheimer's disease, but that remote memory was less severely impaired and with no temporal gradient among patients with dementia related to HIV infection or Huntington's disease.

J Geriatric Psychiatry Neurol 2005; 18:39-44. Patients with semantic dementia performed significantly worse than patients with Alzheimer's disease and FTD on tasks requiring semantic knowledge. The typical pattern in semantic dementia patients was one of low confrontational naming with relatively high MMSE scores.
