    • For the electrolytes and applied currents used, the overall resistance of the cell was 35 ± 5 Ω prior to the transition time. Therefore, the potentials required to maintain currents of 25-100 mA were in the range of 1-4 V, and the power required for pumping was <0.5 W. Evaluation of maximum possible Joule heating showed that for an electrolysis of 100 C, the highest amount of heat energy added to the cell was 400 J. Using a total cell volume of 40 mL, a maximum temperature rise calculated for 100 mA was 2.5 °C. Direct measurement of solution temperature using a thermocouple showed an increase of <1 °C.
