In a cohort of 1312 asymptomatic nondiabetic individuals, coronary calcium was associated with the occurrence of death and myocardial infarction. Patients in the Framingham intermediate-risk categories benefited the most - in terms of risk prediction - from coronary calcium imaging. As in the study by Shaw et al. [23], coronary calcium added incremental prognostic information to traditional risk factors.
