Scattering functions of semiflexible polymers with and without excluded volume effects
-
•• Monte Carlo simulation has been used for generating scattering functions of semi-flexible Kratky-Porod chains with and without excluded volume. The results were parameterized so that numerical fitting functions are available. These have many possible applications, which have also been demonstrated by numerous examples in the literature. In this paper, the expressions were successfully applied to literature data from polystyrene in a good solvent.

Langmuir. 16:(16):2000;6431-6437 SANS data from ionic WLCs in a 0.1 M NaCl solution were fitted by an RPA expression in agreement with Ref. [34]••. A very large concentration region above the overlap concentration was covered. Prior to the fits for the full range of scattering vectors, the growth law and thus the micellar length were determined by analyzing the forward intensity.

Size, flexibility, and scattering functions of semiflexible polyelectrolytes with excluded volume effects: Monte Carlo simulations and neutron scattering experiments
-
•• Monte Carlo simulation on single chains of a polyelectrolyte polymer-like model for WLCs. The electrostatics is treated in the Debye-Hückel approximation. It is shown that the scattering functions can be fitted by that of neutral self-avoiding semiflexible chains [14]••, so that the total persistence length can be determined. The electrostatic contribution to the persistence length is in reasonable agreement with the OSF theory [46], but underestimated.

Properties of polyelectrolyte chains from analysis of angular correlation functions

• A continuation of the Monte Carlo simulation on single chains of a polyelectrolyte polymer-like model for WLCs [44]••. It is shown that the same values for the electrostatic contribution to the persistence length can be deduced from the angular correlation function and the scattering function, if a contribution from excluded volume interactions is also taken into account for the angular correlation functions. The definition of the persistence length used during the parameterization of the scattering functions makes it unnecessary to include this [14]••.

Monte Carlo simulation study of concentration effects and scattering functions for polyelectrolyte wormlike micelles
-
•• The same model as used in Ref. [44]•• for polyelectrolyte WLCs is used for many chain simulations. A wide range of charge densities, concentrations and salt concentration in agreement with the experimental conditions in Ref. [32]• was studied. Empirical scaling behaviour of many parameters was established. The scattering data were analysed by PRISM expressions, and an empirical expression for the related direct correlation function was determined. For strongly interacting conditions, a peak was observed in the scattering function and it scales similarly with concentration as the peak observed for polymer polyelectrolytes.
