Colloidal CdSe nanocrystals from tri-n-octylphosphine: Part I: Growth and optical properties from polar and non-polar solvents

According to our non-organometallic approaches involving a certain amount of TOP in a reaction flask before the injection, a comprehensive examination of the control of the photoluminescent (PL) properties was performed by systematically varying the TOP/TOPO weight ratio of the reaction media. Surprisingly, a rational choice of 100% TOP or 80% TOP was found to produce high-quality nano-crystals when monitored under the Present Experimental Conditions and Growth-Time Scale (PECGTS). Furthermore, the presence of large amount of TOPO in the reaction media of CdSe is not good either, regarding the optical properties of the resulting CdSe dispersions after days of storage (in dark);

    • (a) The vial storing the 20-min nanocrystals in the solid state was kept in the dark at 5 °C for 37 days before the dilution experiments were performed. The 37-day-old suite of the 20 min CdSe nanocrystals exhibits an enhancement of the PL intensity as compared to the as-prepared suite in both Hex and in THF;
