It should be noted, however, that the time interval τ in this scheme is not necessarily small as in the ordinary Zeno measurements, and the purification (13) is not due to the quantum Zeno effect. If the ordinary Zeno limit N → ∞ and τ→ 0 (Nτ = T fixed) [15] is taken in the present scheme, a quantum Zeno effect appears yielding the so-called "quantum Zeno dynamics" [17], which is unitary and provides us with a quite different effect from the one discussed in this paper.
