The largest study we could find on the management of food allergy in the emergency department. Emergency management was found to be discordant with recommended guidelines for the treatment of food allergy and anaphylaxis. Among 678 patients treated in the emergency department for food allergy, only 16% received a discharge prescription for self-injectable epinephrine. Even among patients considered to have anaphylaxis, only 22% received a discharge prescription for self-injectable epinephrine.
