    • The nanotubes had a measure of coherence as an aerogel, and it is this property that aids spinning. However, there is no doubt that in the early stages of the synthesis, when a nanotube has only just started to grow from the metal particle and interaction between different nanotubes is weak, the phase would be more correctly described as an aerosol.
