These experiments, which utilize electronic spectrum analyzers, have measured the frequency of smectic film undulations up to ∼ 10 MHz, but with no reported results for the damping. [See A. Bottger and J. G. H. Joosten, Europhys. Lett. 4, 1297 (1987)]. Also, improvements on the spectrum analysis technique have been used to study orientational order fluctuations in Isotropic liquid crystals for frequencies between 10 kHz and 1 GHz, but to our knowledge, there have been no applications to smectic membranes. [See T. Masuoka, K. Sakai, and K. Takagi, Phys. Rev. Lett. 71, 1510 (1993)].
