17 Also from a steric point of view the influence of the substituent at C5 will be small because the C5-substituent and the C3-proton do not approach each other. Since it was already clear that the trans diastereomer was formed in larger yield than the cis stereoisomer, the yields indicated also that the isomers with a δ-value around 3.3 ppm were the cis isomers, because they were always the minor products in the reaction mixtures (see the mechanism described above)
