Effect of flutamide and metformin administered alone or in combination in dieting obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome
-
Gambineri A, Pelusi C, Genghini S, et al. Effect of flutamide and metformin administered alone or in combination in dieting obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome. Clin Endocrinol (Oxf) 2004; 60:241-249. An RCT with four arms comparing placebo, metformin, flutamide and combined metformin and flutamide. It reported that the combination therapy gave the greatest metabolic benefits. The combination of antiandrogen agents and insulin sensitizers is opening a new field of investigation in PCOS research. The trial also suggested that dieting was the most important factor in reducing insulin resistance.
