The dimeric structure of 8b was confirmed by X-ray diffraction study, where each yttrium centre is hepta-coordinated by one tetradentate bis(phenolato) ligand, one β-diketonato ligand and one μ-O donor atom from the second bis(phenolato) ligand. The geometry around the metal centre is a distorted pentagonal bipyramid with the μ-O donor atom as well as one oxygen donor atom of the β-diketonato group in apical position. Due to the poor quality of the crystal, the refinements did not lead to satisfactory results.
