It has been demonstrated that, although the first discovery of the living behavior was made with a pentafluorinated version of the catalysts (see ref 4f), only a single o-F is a requirement for the living polymerization of ethylene, and the corresponding non-F and o-methylated versions do not promote living ethylene polymerization under identical conditions (see refs 4g and 10c). These results indicate that steric factors do not play a key role in the achievement of living ethylene polymerization.
